“The spikes, archival pages” (2015)
Size and description of work and specify any special hanging requirements
A piece of work taken from an ongoing project built around the concept of three sided prisms representing a form of organisms that grow from within the surface of the earth and infecting whatever it touches. “The spikes, archival pages” (2015) looks at creating a sense of fear of the object without directly subjecting the viewer to the object. Through the use of archival styled material a organised back story is created to give the illusion of old material on this organism further adding to a sense of impending fear that this organism has returned and all available information has been gathered to understand what they are.
The piece of work fits into the idea of organizing chaos in the way that it is presented. The archival pieces are displayed in archival sleeves which can only be handled when the viewer has put on the pair of gloves supplied with the documents. situated on a pedestal with a series of instructions disguised as military documents further add to the authority and seriousness the documents want to promote to the viewer. What could be seen as a chaotic organism is given some order through having the documents on it in a system to help record the chaos the spikes create.
Contents of work:
6 A4 pages in acrylic sleeves
1 A4 Archival box
1 Set of archival gloves (more available to replace when broken or dirty)
Pedestal: 100x40x40cm
The pedestal is required to be this size to allow elements like the box lid and the gloves to fit on the same surface without looking cluttered. The location of the piece would require a decent light source to allow clear viewing of the documents.
