Cubus, hexahedrons or cubes as we know them are the subject matter of this project. This project came around from trying to think of was I could continue “the spikes” but in a different way. The idea for different shapes came from both development of ideas and recommendations from fellow peers. The project originally was going to consist of a large amount of cubes that had a corner removed so that they sat at an angle. This would have worked but I would have then gone on to create a collection of cubes with similar textures. Instead I chose to focus on the concept of stacking the cubes on top of each other. This instantly caught my imagination for two reasons, firstly the shape that was formed. And the fact I got the idea that it was a still in time of the cubes falling down from the sky.
Compared to “The spikes” the number of these is very limited as where the spikes are just 3 sided prisms on their own, they need to be in numbers to evoke a response, the cubes however have a interesting shape to them that makes them stand out more. If there was a large amount of them I feel that there wouldn’t have been the same effect (I find that it would take away from the piece) by having a smaller amount you can focus more on the shapes and the space arount them and the shadows that are created by the cubes.
